NuEra SINK or SWIM album release concert on Thursday was too live.
Kung Foo Grip? TiRon & Ayomari?? Blu??? ’Nuff said right there, but since this is a blog I guess I’ll use a few more key stokes and tell y’all about the experience.
Before Thursday night I had never really heard of Kung Foo Grip, and honestly I have no idea why. These guys (Seattle natives!) are the definition of the combination of high energy and lyrical content that you would expect to see at Seattle Hip Hop show. Their latest EP, Capitalize, is available via their bandcamp website (Linked Below) FOR FREE, along with some of their previous releases.
Word is Kung Foo Grip’s next show is February 3, 2012 at Nuemos, so stay on the look out for more info on that!
The second act was Californian duo, TiRon & Ayomari. Listeners of the show or followers of the blog know that these guys are two of my favorites, and actually the main reason that I went, and honestly I thought they were the best act of the night. Their set was pretty diverse and included music from older albums like The Cafeteria Line’s Ketchup all the way though their latest release A Sucker For Pumps. Along with their great set the duo also brought an energy to the stage that transferred quickly to the audience. There wasn’t a head in the house that wasn’t bobbing to the beat from the time they first picked up the mics.
My girl Jordan and I had the chance to meet them after their set, and they were both really chill and down-to-earth dudes. I should have tried to get a little exclusive interview for the blog, but I was defiantly thinking like a fan that night so it didn’t even cross my mind, sigh. Although I was able to ask Ayomari the age-old question: Which is better? Dicks or In-N-Out? His reply, In-N-Out burgers but Dicks has better fries. So there ya have it, an Ayo!808 exclusive :)
The last act of the night was rapper Blu. I don’t even know how to explain the experience of watching Blu on stage, the guy is a genius. Although I felt some parts of his performance lacked the energy brought by the previous acts, the content far surpassed them all. Even though it was around midnight when he finished his set and I had an 8am class the next day, I wanted to hear more. The rest of the audience shared similar feelings because they cheered and chanted his his name until he blessed us with an encore performance. Sadly, I was a little disappointed that he didn’t do very much music from my favorite album, Below The Heavens, but hey ya cant have it all.
I don’t remember if he did any songs that night off latest release, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them, but I defiantly encourage you guys to go check that out! Of course, I’ll link it below.
All in all, it was a really great night with a lot of really great music and I’m so glad that I went and could share my experience you all. I’ll upload some pics and a few vids later on this week, but for now here’s some links to the aforementioned artists music:
